I think it's a great idea to start with the news headline rather than some description - although as we all said in the workshop you're so good at description that it would be a shame to cut out all of it - it just needs to be placed in the story in small chunks and while other things are happening to keep the reader hooked.
It is also better to put questions like this in the original blog post instead of in an entry on it's own so that people don't get confused.
